Two Weeks From Today.
Greetings 11AP students! I am counting this as your first official blog post of the school year, even though we won't meet for another two weeks. I have seen many of you here and there over the summer, and spoken to a few more of you on the phone. It sounds like we are going to have a great year.
One thing I have heard through the grapevine is that the Lincoln book assignment is not a whole lot of fun. Since I've been reading it myself, I can say I feel your pain. Look at it this way: not only do you have a good exposure to rhetoric and the process Lincoln used when writing this speech, but you'll also be able to wow your US History teacher with the great historical trivia you gleaned from the book. Who knew that Andrew Johnson, the vice-president, was drunk when he took his oath of office? Or that Lincoln's assassin, John Wilkes Booth was present? Or that ten inches of mud covered the streets of Washington, D.C.? The details Ronald White provided surrounding the inaugural helped to set the tone of the chapter.
Please note that this assignment will be due the SECOND day of classes. That is, B or C day, depending when you have your first class.
I know that a lot of you will be wondering what we'll be doing the first few classes. So, I'll post a brief Opening Day Agenda before school starts. Please email me if you have any questions. And remember: these dates and activities are subject to change, especially because of the new schedule.
What you will need for class:
A writing implement.
A journal.
Your mind, in the "on" & "open" position.
These are the things we will use every single class. So don't forget them!
